KA-ZIMBA
KaZimba Ngoma is a fighting art form that is like a recipe flavoured with spices from many Afrikan cultures and slow cooked to create a mouth watering meal: modern in presentation and ancient in root.
From the combat training of the ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) people through the fighting techniques of Zulu impis to the Caribbean stick warriors of Kalinda, KaZimba has a lineage that could be said to have been lost in the mists of time.
KaZimba in practice is seen as a dynamic, often acrobatic visual display of coordination, balance and serious intention. The Key to our Art Form is the aim of oneness between mind and movement and amongst all participants, regardless of culture, age, sex, religion. Underlying all that we do, is the essence of Afrika in the sense of ’A-Free-KA (Spirit) a connectedness to nature and her wildlife and of a zest for Life itself.
Students are taught to focus on Manyamas (animal movements) and the essence of the five elements: water; earth; air; fire; ether (spirit) and to use this to further enhance their individual expression. Teaching combines self-discipline with the wisdom of our ancestors the Rhythms – Movement - Poetry – Songs - and Stories at the heart of KaZimba Ngoma that have been passed on and retold by the Mwalimu (Master Teachers) and up to this day by the current Ndugu. (Teachers)
Through fighting arts and self knowledge, we aim to encourage participants to create solutions to their own trials: often this proves to be the greatest challenge a person can face…
